The winter version of the Transfagarasan tour is as spectacular as its summer edition. This time, is not the road the main attraction,
but the newest hotel in Romania: The Ice Hotel. Why the newest? Because it is rebuilt every year, using “bricks” cut from the ice of the the frozen
Balea Lake. Everything is made from ice, from the walls of the hotel, to the beds, the bar, and the glasses. Don’t ask for a hot tea though, it will
endanger the the hotel. :)
The acces to the Ice Hotel is made with the cable car, since the Transgarasan Road is closed in winter. The cable car can
be an experience in itself, allowing the visitor to admire magnificent scenery, but with only one condition: you don’t need to be afraid of heights.
The Ice Hotel is just a hour away from Sibiu, so this leave us a few posibilities to spend the rest of the day, if we start early in the morning. The tour to
the Ice Hotel can be continued with a visit to Sighisoara, Bran Castle of Brasov.
